China produces i3 knock-off, fools no one

Can’t quite afford a new BMW i3? How about a knock-off.

A Chinese motorcycle company has released a car that carries a striking resemblance to BMW’s electric city-car. The Jinma KWM2200 is a low-speed electric vehicle with a price tag of just $5200.

While the front looks noticeably like the i3, and there is a nod to the BMW at the rest, that is where the likeness ends.

Now is it a technological powerhouse like the i3. Underneath is just a 3kW motor and an old-school lead-acid battery. It will top out at 50km/h and travel an optimistic 120km.
