Chevrolet orders recall of 40,000 Corvettes

If you thought factory recalls were strictly reserved for suicidal Toyotas, you thought wrong. Over in the States, General Motors has just issued a recall for all 2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette models.

America’s National Highway Transport Safety Administration says that the recall applies to Vettes of that period with tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheels. Apparently, over time, the signals traveling through the steering wheel could become corrupted, resulting in a sudden and unwanted error message. But it gets worse. The malfunction could cause one side of the vehicle’s brakes to lock up and pull the car to the left or the right, leaving the driver in a sticky situation.

A total of 40,028 Corvettes are involved in the recall, and GM says that it will replace the faulty parts free of charge. If you are the owner of a 2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette it will pay to get it checked out or contact your importer directly.
