Caterham preparing to expand sports car range

Iconic British carmaker Caterham has confirmed its development of a new line of affordable sports-focused models.

To help achieve the ambitious expansion Caterham has founded a separate engineering company to concentrate on the new models. Named Caterham Technology and Innovation Limited the new firm will use the knowledge gained from years of building the Caterham Seven and put it into a more accessible product line for the masses. There are even rumours of implementing lightweight materials and high-performance engine tech from the Team Lotus Formula One effort. That’s exciting stuff and Caterham is claiming that a global product line will be produced within the next ten years.

In addition to designing light-weight sports cars CTI will also offer engineering services to other manufacturers. It’s likely that any takers will come from the automotive sector but there may be some interest from the aerospace industry as well.

Speaking of Caterham Technology and Innovation, Caterham Cars’ Chief Executive, Ansar Ali, said “Creating a new product range that has the same reputation and appeal as the Seven, which delivers on the promise of accessibility and affordability, is the Holy Grail in this business. To meet the challenge, we knew we needed to invest in a new operation that would have the scope, experience and vision to deliver.” He added, “I feel very confident that our customers will be pleased with the products I have challenged CTI to deliver, in addition to supporting the Seven and I look forward to revealing our plans in more detail soon.”

Expect further announcements in the next few years.
