BUGGER on block for auction

bugger-plate-special-eventA number plate with links to a legendary New Zealand vehicle advertisement is up for sale – with the proceeds going to charity.

Personalised Plates Ltd, NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and Surf Life Saving New Zealand are working together to auction the ‘Rights To Receive’ the personalised plate BUGGER, with the winning bid amount being donated to Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

In 1999, as a result of the iconic Toyota Hilux television campaign, the public interest in purchasing this plate was very high. At the time the Transport Agency decided it was not appropriate to release it for sale.

16 years later and at a request by Personalised Plates Ltd, NZTA have released this plate, recognising the evolution of language and that the term is now part of the everyday NZ vernacular.

“People love their personalised plates, and we know there’ll be a good market for this one, which will be great news for our friends at Surf Life Saving New Zealand. So go on, make a bid!,” says NZTA chief executive Geoff Dangerfield.

The auction for BUGGER will take place on Trade Me from 7am on 12th May 2015, concluding at 9am on 14th May 2015.

Jeremy Lubeck, Owner of Personalised Plates is pleased to have the opportunity.

“We are very pleased we can use this opportunity to raise money for the good kiwi buggers at Surf Life Saving New Zealand”.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand chief executive Paul Dalton called the plate iconic.

“We’re delighted that the New Zealand Transport Agency and Personalised Plates Ltd have offered to show their support to Surf Life Saving New Zealand through this iconic plate,” Dalton says. “We’re sure that there will be many Kiwis out there wanting to get their hands on it and we hope that they dig deep in support of Surf Life Saving New Zealand so that our volunteer lifeguards can continue their great work of helping to make our beaches a safer place for all to enjoy.”

Full details of the up coming auction will be on the Personalised Plates website www.plates.co.nz from 21st April.
