Big Boys Toys on this weekend

Big Boys Toys on this weekend

Hear that noise? It’s the sound of the 2016 Big Boys Toys’ lineup of great and crazy cars warming up for this weekend’s event.

Whether it’s super power you’re seeking or something completely different, this show has it all at the ASB Showgrounds from October 28 to 30, from 10am to 6pm.

First off the starting grid, the French off-roader Swincar makes its debut. This vehicle stands out because each wheel has its own electric hub motor and, combined with spider-like suspension, makes for extraordinary rough terrain capabilities.

The Swin all-terrain vehicle has been eight years in the making. King Country farmer Cliff Tombleson is responsible for bringing the car into New Zealand and describes it as a “mechanical spider on steroids. The Swincar takes the off road concept to a whole new planet”.

At the other extreme end of the scale, Aston Martin will not disappoint with the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 on show to the New Zealand public for the first time. This supercar features an updated clamshell bonnet, new grill and a new aero blade which controls air-flow over the DB11’s new bodywork.

Not just a stylistic supercar, the new model has a twin turbocharge of 5.2 litres, a V12 engine, and is the most powerful DB model in the entire history of Aston Martin.

Even more powerful in the Driven Hall is the Ferrari F12 TDF, a 12-cylinder monster that charges from 0 to 100kph in just 2.9 seconds.

Described by Top Gear as “serving up the most extraordinary surge of savage, linear acceleration, and the relentless thrust of a jet fighter on take-off”, the Italian supercar is designed to turn heads.

For those who seek a unique vehicle of their own design, the Kiwi Brodster is a must see. Built by a passionate local team, the car is a mixture of both traditional hot rod elements and late model BMW parts, custom built car for All Black superstar Brodie Retallick.

Retallick isn’t a small man, so the car is built for comfort, even for those who are not two metres tall like him. Due to its unique features and more than a few surprises, the car has been endorsed by Hot Rod magazine.

For those keen on mountain drives, the Land-Rover Terra Pod Experience is an artificial off-road course which allows Land Rover Discovery passengers to experience the full range of the vehicle’s abilities, rising eight metres in the air.

Classic and crazy cars will not be the only vehicles on show –  models from Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover and Yamaha will also be included.

And from four wheels to two, the legendary FMX and BMX drivers Levi Sherwood, Kurtis Downs and Jed Mildon are edging to show off their tricks.
