Aussie car maker Elfin unleashes Type 5 Clubman

Australian sportscar-maker Elfin has just unveiled its latest offering the new Type 5 Clubman at the Sydney Motor Show. The company is under the care of Tom Walkinshaw, a legend in the motorsports and tuning communities who has used his close ties with Holden and GM to create the Type 5 Clubman. Replacing the discontinued Type 3, the new Type 5 joins the line-up alongside the MS8 Streamliner that was also unveiled at the Sydney Motor Show.

The new roadster has an American 260-hp turbo four cylinder motor borrowed from the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Redline, only in a much lighter frame of just 750kg. The combination of solid power and low weight means the Type 5 will reach 100 km/h (62mph) in just 3.7 seconds. The Type 5 Clubman should be priced in the same bracket as the Nissan 350Z or Mazda RX-8. If you don’t need a roof or doors the Type 5 can offer a lot of bang for your buck.
