Audi has just released the details on its all-new mid-size five-door liftback. Building on the popular body work of the A5 coupe and cabrio, the Sportback receives an extra set of doors, along with a tailgate to add some functionality to its enviable form.

European buyers will be able to pick up a Sportback starting in September this year with a choice of five diesel and petrol engines all of which come equipped with direct injection. The two petrol units are Audi’s 2.0 TFSI quattro with an output of 211hp (155kW) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque and the 3.2L V6 quattro generating 265hp (195kW) both come equipped with the Audi valvelift system.

Three diesel motors will also be available – a 2.0L TDI with 170hp (125kW) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox and start/stop system, the 2.7 TDI with 190hp (140kW) and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque, and the 3.0L V6 TDI with 240hp (170kW) and an impressive 369lb-ft (500Nm) of maximum torque and quattro all-wheel drive.

To maintain Audi’s reputation for strong handling and performance the A5 Sportback comes packing a newly developed electronic stability program and an electronic differential lock on the front axle. The car also comes with the Audi’s drive select dynamic driving system, that enables the driver to pick one of three different modes which influence throttle response characteristics, gear shifting points, and supports the electronic steering. If the vehicle is equipped with the optional MMI operating system, a fourth, freely programmable level is also available.
