Volvo New Zealand this morning lifted the covers off an all-new pre-production XC 90 SUV at it’s ocean race pavilion in Auckland’s Viaduct harbour, only two weeks prior to the opening of it’s newest showroom in Auckland.

A safety specialist from the Gothenburg Volvo visitor centre, Jonas Wepsalainen, introduced the features and benefits of the all-new XC 90 to assembled media and guests.

The public reveal of the long awaited 7-seat SUV which is available in D5 diesel, T6 petrol and T8 twin engine plug-in petrol electric hybrid variants comes ahead of the new Volvo showroom in Greenlane, Auckland which will officially open its doors on Friday March 13.

Since the retail pricing of the all-new XC90 was announced recently, dealers have taken five deposits from customers. Delivery of the new XC 90 in Momentum, Inscription and R Design grades will start in July.

Volvo Cars New Zealand product and market manager Zac Burt says the distributor has been allocated 100 units by the factory but it is hopeful of getting another additional 50 units for 2015.

Burt says its an exciting time for Volvo New Zealand to be able to have overseas Volvo management in town to grace both events, and he says the XC 90 heralds the rebirth of the Volvo brand locally.

The local distributor is using the arrival of the Volvo Global Ocean Race to its best advantage by hosting media, current Volvo owners, and prospective owners at the temporary Volvo Pavilion which is one of two pop-up units that the Swedish manufacturer ships to cities hosting a stop over leg of the yacht race.

The Volvo Ocean Race will be stationed in Auckland until March 15 while the competitor boats are overhauled and serviced for the next leg of their journey to South America.

Members of the public can also view the full range of Volvo passenger vehicles as well get behind the wheel of a Volvo heavy truck or commercial digger. Inside the pavilion there are interactive displays of the ocean race as well as the Volvo cars and trucks, and visitors can also get up close and personal with the new XC 90.
