AC Cobra is back and it’s packing 800hp

One of the UK’s oldest car companies AC Cars recently announced plans for a new reissue of its classic Cobra roadster, with the first car unveiled last April. The new MkVI recreation of the original AC Cobra has been freshly designed from the ground up and is set for production at a German plant.

Now, Iconic Motors — an American company has got together with AC to produce the limited edition ‘Iconic AC Roadster’.

Starting with the new Cobra MkVI chassis, Iconic Motors have crammed a 6.9-litre V8 engine into the lightweight body and then tuned it to 800 horsepower. With the standard version weighing in at only 1,025kg, performance in the new Iconic AC Roadster is set to be frightening.

No independent tests have been run but Iconic Motors insists the car will be capable of hitting 100kph from standing in three seconds flat or less and passing the quarter mile in around nine. Given that the regular 647 horsepower AC Cobra MkVI GTS takes only 3.3 seconds to run to 100kph, Iconic Motors’ predicted numbers are possible.
