5-star for Sonata

The new Hyundai Sonata has claimed a 5-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme.

But while the car has reached the top rung of the safety ladder, the Automobile Association has called for more features for the model.

While the Sonata boasts hill launch assist and reversing collision avoidance as standard it doesn’t include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) which is available on its luxury model, the Genesis.

“We want to see all manufacturers including advanced safety assist technologies as they are developed to further minimise the risk of serious injury or death on our roads,” AA technical services manager Stella Stocks says.

The Sonata’s score came as ANCAP confirmed a 4-star result for the Suzuki Celerio.
