Holden Colorado Extreme – the $3 million ute

Holden New Zealand has scored a Southern Hemisphere first, putting an Australian-developed concept ute on show at Fieldays.

The ‘Colorado Xtreme’ has been shown in Spain and Bangkok, and next week at Mystery Creek will be the first time it will be shown in this half of the world.

Hinting at how the updated Colorado will look when it lands in September, the Xtreme comes with a step price tag – up to $3 million dollars to develop and build.

“This is probably the most expensive Holden we have ever had here in New Zealand,” Holden New Zealand managing director Kristian Aquilina told journalists gathered in Auckland yesterday to see the vehicle.

The Xtreme takes styling hints, both inside and out, from the United States-market Colorado, and is slathered in what appears to be every accessory known to the ute-world – LED light bars, skid plates, bead-lock wheels with impressive mud-terrain tyres, and a custom tray-lining with spare tyre mount.

The Xtreme was developed with accessories in mind, with Holden claiming up to 70% of the accessories will ultimately be available officially from Holden for road-going vehicles.
