2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS wide-body revealed – in NZ next year

Porsche will introduce a new 911 variant at the forthcoming Paris Motor Show in early October when it unveils its beefed up Carrera GTS model.

Sitting between the Carrera S and 911 GT3 in the Porsche range the GTS is defined by greater power, a wider body and more standard equipment.

In terms of power output, the 3.8-litre engine with 300 kW/402hp bridges the gap between the Carrera S with 283 kW/380 hp and the 911 GT3 with 320 kW/429 hp. The 17kW increase in power comes from a special intake manifold with six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps for optimised torque geometry where in the Carrera S there is only one flap. Maximum torque of 420 Nm remains unchanged but is now available 200 rpm earlier at 4200 rpm. Add to that a sports exhaust with two sets of dual tailpipes.

Thanks to the upgrades, performance figures improve slightly with top speed gaining 4 km/h to 306 km/h (manual trans only) while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is lowered by 0.1 seconds to 4.2 seconds for a GTS Coupe with optional PDK and a Sport Chrono Package Plus in Sport Plus mode. Fuel consumption with PDK is 10.2 litres/100 km.

Body upgrades include a SportDesign front with a lower lip spoiler, special sideskirts, and the Carrera GTS graphics on the doors and rear lid. The Carrera GTS has a 44mm wider rear track than the Carrera 4 along with 19-inch hub-mounted RS Spyder wheels and 305/30 ZR 19 tyres at the back.

Following its public debut at the Paris Motor Show the 911 Carrera GTS Coupe and Cabriolet will be available in New Zealand from January 2011 with local pricing and specification yet to be confirmed.
