A month before its official launch at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche has unveiled its new lightweight 2010 Boxster Spyder.

Porsche has taken an impressive 80kg from the Boxster’s total weight and increased the 3.4 litre boxer six-cylinder power by  8kW, making for a 1275kg, 240kW sports car.

Porsche are stating that the Spyder will reach 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds when power is sent to the wheels through Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission.

Inspired by the 550 Spyder and 356 Speedster, the new Boxster Spyder has been designed specifically for open-air driving. The Spyder is equipped with a soft-top roof for wet weather, designed to deliver a sleek, low-slung look which Porsche says is similar to the Carrera GT.

The Boxster Spyder goes on sale in Europe in February next year, starting from $102,100 NZ.
