Father to battle son at Leadfoot Festival

IMG_3277Rhys Millen will take up the ultimate challenge and will race his dad – motor racing and automotive impresario Rod Millen for the’King of Millen Mountain’ title at the 2016 Leadfoot Festival in February.

The Millen father and son were regular adversaries at the Pikes Peak challenge, and it has always been Rhys aim to beat his father on his Hahei hill climb.

“With more than 20 years racing experience Rhys has carved out a solid career and reputation becoming one of the most sought after performance drivers in the gigantic US automotive scene,” says Rod Millen.

“We are thrilled to have Rhys in New Zealand to play on the Leadfoot driveway and to try and beat the old man,” he says.

Rhys will drive his Red Bull global rally cross Hyundai Veloster Turbo at the Leadfoot Festival. He has previously won the 2014 Daytona Speedway inaugural RedBull GRC event and the 2014 RedBull GRC Los Angeles event.

The annual Leadfoot Festival offers a weekend of Motorsport bringing together a mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles and motorsport legends to Rod and Shelly Millen’s private grounds at Leadfoot Ranch.

The 150-acre estate in Hahei features a mile long driveway that winds through the property designed to be the perfect hill climb.

Rod Millen personally selects championship racers from around the world to receive the coveted invitation to participate in the Leadfoot Festival.

The weekend also offers a collection of static celebrated vintage cars and motorbikes to line areas of the paddock, which makes it like no other motorsport festival in New Zealand.
