UK reaches 5 quid per gallon of gas

In New Zealand we think we’ve got it tough. We pay just under two bucks a litre. But in the UK five quid a gallon converts (with some dodgy maths) to three dollars a litre. So, if I had to drive a mile in someone else’s shoes (or car, for that matter), it wouldn’t be in a V8 in London. Actually, especially not London because of the congestion charge. Not only are UK motorists hit with the most ridiculous taxes on fuel, but they have to pay about NZ$20 to get into the downtown London and that’s about to increase to about $60.

Soon you will be stoned to death if you drive a car that’s got any more power than a small cluster of Breville appliances. And, you won’t even get into heaven because the Catholics will say you’ve sinned. Unless you go to confession, that is. Confess your petrol-burning sins and you’ll be alright at the Pearly Gates.

Speaking of pearly, apparently the most popular colour for a new car now is white with a pearl through it. Silver has been displaced. It’s kind of boring anyway and it doesn’t photograph well. I’ve just picked up a silver Peugeot 308 and it would look much better in red.
