Like a favourite pair of sports shoes: MX-5

I’ve owned two MX-5s: a 1.6 and a 1.8. The 1.8 had been in an accident and wasn’t quite straight, so was a real handful in the wet. But, I liked both of them. Getting into the new series 3 MX-5 coupe with its folding hard top is like getting into a favourite pair of sports shoes. Fitting snugly around my body, the MX-5 feels agile and responsive. With rear wheel drive and a slick 6-speed manual it’s a nugget of fun. Half of me prays for rain so that I can drift it; the other half prays for sun so that I can have the roof down.
