I used to be for cyclists’ rights on the road…until this morning

It was terrible what happened on Tamaki Drive last weekend. I’m not denying it. And, until this morning I was all for the rights of pack cyclists, but now I’m not. From my own personal experience they are a bunch of arrogant, law-breaking bullies who think that just because their soft and fleshy bits are more exposed than car users that they have every right of way on the road. In reality their blatant disregard for the rules of the road this morning meant that I nearly hit one of them…hang on, I phrased that wrong: one of them nearly hit me. A reactive yell at me from one of the pack was about all their feeble brains could muster because perhaps the rest of them actually realised they were in the wrong.

And what’s with this being allowed to ride two abreast rule. It is absolutely the most ridiculous law around. Cyclists put themselves and other road users in danger by riding two abreast because they form more of an obstacle.

Pack cyclists – you need to clean up your act, because I can now understand the vitriol directed at you, and the problem is that it’s at least 50% your fault.
