Hmmm…not quite getting the fuel economy I expected from the Polo BlueMotion

Well, it’s not really the Polo BlueMotion’s fault. A combination of having to drive from Grey Lynn to Papatoetoe and back in rush hour, then from Takapuna to Grey Lynn in rush hour means I’m averaging 6.5l/100km as opposed to the sub-4s that can be achieved. Still, most cars wouldn’t even come close to 6.5 one a downhill cruise, let alone shuffling the clutch in and out on Esmonde Road.

Hopefully this new bus lane will ease the diabolical traffic on Esmonde Rd. The irony is that Steve, our content editor, who lives in Okura (where the hell’s that, you ask – it’s north of Long Bay) can often get into work quicker than me if we both leave at 9am. I have to battle Esmonde Rd; he can just whip onto the motorway. I really think that North Shore City council has made some serious errors of judgement when it comes to traffic planning. The councillors don’t realise that by hampering traffic they drive up costs for everyone because freight gets stuck on the roads, people get stuck on the roads, etc. And not to mention the wasted fuel – I mean we can’t all drive Polo BlueMotions, can we!?
