God, Guns, Guts and American Pick Up Trucks

God, Guns, Guts and American Pick Up Trucks

Guns are fun. Now I know that’s not a popular opinion especially here in NZ, but the fact is when you shoot a gun you get a real rush. Perhaps this comes from the power or the feeling that you’re doing something you probably shouldn’t, who knows. My experiences with guns have included shooting a revolver at a gun range in a poor suburb of Miami a few years back, I picked out a paper target of Osama Bin Laden in an attempt to win favour with the gun carrying range workers. I shot Osama up pretty bad I shot him in the ear, in the shoulder and even in the top of the turban. Afterwards, a quick count of the holes in the target verses the amount of bullets I used revealed that in a real life situation I would have also shot any henchmen or camels standing behind him too. No wonder that Osama is still in hiding with genuine ‘William Tell’ guys like me on the loose.

After the Miami shootout, I returned home and shot a .22 calibre rifle with my Dad, which was even more special, I didn’t feeling like spilling the blood of a small animal so I shot some cans. Red Bull, Coke, Steinlager I just shot anything I could find in the recycling bin, totally random, totally cold. I even shot an empty tin of Watties Baked Beans but I’m not proud of that.

Despite being my blog it’s not all about me and getting back to the states, I came across an interesting story in the news this week. It turns out Max Motors from Butler, Missouri is giving away a free AK-47 assault rifle with every pick-up truck sold. I was shocked to hear this. I mean the AK-47 is the gun of choice for terrorists the world over, its even made by the Russians, it really made me feel that all those 3 or 4 times I shot Osama back in Miami were for nothing.

Turns out last year Max Motors gave away free handguns with the purchase of a truck, but a handgun just isn’t dangerous enough in the wrong hands so they had to step it up to the AK-47, hard to fault the logic really. Not surprisingly Max Motors has generated a lot of media coverage for the deal even appearing on CNN.

The motto of Max Motors is ‘God, Guns, Guts and American Pick Up Trucks’ and apparently the firepower is needed because of a persistent Meth problem that has created a high crime rate in the area. High crime in an area where a truck dealership just gives away AK-47s? Who would have thought.
