Are new cars making me sterile?

I drive a different car every few days and most of them have less than a couple of thousand on the clock. The Merc C220 CDI I picked up on Monday had just 100km. So, the cars are still releasing nasty VOCs and solvents into the atmosphere as I drive – that ‘new car smell’.

The big question is whether these chemicals have the ability to make me ill or not (or whether if I think they did it would be psychosomatic.) Should I drive with the window down to avoid the nasty nasal invasion, or will  that just create another problem: diesel and petrol fumes from other cars entering the cabin, killing off my brain cells and making me sterile?

I wouldn’t mind being sterile, though. I have no desire to have kids as that would almost certainly scupper my ultimate goal of buying a ludicrously overpowered two-seater supercar. I’m not going to create any planet-sapping offspring, so I won’t feel guilty if I drive a car that drinks fuel like soccer players guzzle lager.
