Swift range revised after ten years at the top

To celebrate the Suzuki Swift achieving a decade of being New Zealand’s top selling light car, the New Zealand distributor has axed two model variants and dropped the price on the base model by 5%.

The entry-level 1.4-litre GL model now carries a recommended retail price of $18,990, plus on-road costs, for the manual version, and $19,990, plus on-road cost, for the automatic transmission model.

Both manual and automatic Swift GLX variants continue unchanged, while the current Limited and RS versions are dropped from the range and replaced by the RSX automatic.

This is the new flagship for the 1.4-litre range and has a higher specification level than the outgoing RS model says Suzuki New Zealand.

Standard features of the RSX include a Garmin satellite navigation system, Bluetooth, climate control air conditioning, keyless start and entry, cruise control, 16-inch diameter alloy wheels, LED day time running lamps, fog lamps, four wheel disc brakes and 7 airbags. The RSX automatic is priced at $24,990 plus on-road costs.
The 1.6-litre Swift Sport 5-Door continues and is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic.

Last year the Swift was once more the top selling new car in the light car segment – a position it has held since 2005.

In 2014 a total of 2,667 new Swifts were retailed locally, beating the second placed Toyota Yaris in the supermini or light car sector.

“It is a remarkable achievement for any car to be number one for ten successive years,” says Suzuki New Zealand automotive marketing general manager Gary Collins.

He says it soon became the top choice for private new car buyers when introduced in 2005. It has also been one of the most popular new vehicles in the local market for several years and, at times, the overall market leader.

“Swift has been a consistently strong performer, and it is easily the most successful model yet marketed by Suzuki in New Zealand,” says Collins.
