Fiat Chrysler views options for hot ute market

Mopar JK-8 IndependenceFiat Chrysler New Zealand is seriously eyeing up the hot ute market in New Zealand and has imported a unique Jeep Wrangler pick up, called the JK-8 Independence, to gauge customer feedback at the National Fieldays.

The distributor is also set to commence sales of factory backed but locally converted Ram pick up trucks.

Mopar Jeep® JK-8 KitJeep introduced the Mopar JK-8 pick up conversion kit for the Wrangler Unlimited to the US market in 2011, and provided a customer warranty so long as the conversion was carried out by an authorised Chrysler-Jeep dealer.

Although the orange Wrangler JK-8 Independence destined for display at Mystery Creek is strictly an evaluation vehicle at this point in time, Fiat-Chrysler New Zealand sales manager Greg MacDonald says if the company goes ahead and brings in this vehicle – it will come directly from the factory as a completely built up model.

MacDonald told Autotalk that pricing will be sharp on all of the Fiat-Chrysler products.

New Zealand bound Ram trucks will arrive in left-hand-drive format and will be converted locally to factory specification right-hand-drive by a specialist engineering company says MacDonald.

“The Ram is pretty unique, offering a five tonne towing capacity with the combination of a luxury interior specification with climate air-conditioning and ventilated seats,” says MacDonald.

MacDonald says that Fiat Chrysler is taking the market seriously and that the company will have an off-road course set up at Mystery Creek so that customers can put the Wrangler JK-8 Independence Pick-up and other vehicles through their paces.

Fiat Chrysler New Zealand will also use the National Fieldays to show off the Trailhawk and Limited versions of its all-new Jeep Cherokee being launched mid-June. It has also been able to import the Jeep Wrangler Immortal concept vehicle for its display.

The company will  present vehicles which have been kitted out with genuine Mopar products and accessories to show customers the wide range of factory enhancements on offer.
